Andu Lodge Backpackers
If you are heading North from Adelaide, south from Coober Pedy or east from Perth, don't miss this amazing area. Get off your bus in Port Augusta and spend some time in the little historic outback town of Quorn with its four welcoming pubs and friendly locals. Situated in the central Flinders, it is the original starting point for the famous Ghan Railway. Quorn is only 36km from Port Augusta and a great place to base yourself. It is serviced by Stateliner or a pick-up service is offered by Andu Lodge Backpackers. Nearby are some of the best walking trails in the Flinders and it is only 1 1/2 hours drive to the awesome Wilpena Pound. Don't miss the rare Yellow-footed Rock-wallabies at Warren Gorge and the spectacular views from Devils Peak and Dutchmans Stern. Horse riding tours, mountain bike hire and excellent free advice are available from Andu Lodge, Quorn. Budget Accommodation Dorms, Doubles, Singles, and Family Rooms all available Small, Clean, Friendly Hostel Mountain Bike Hire/Tours Wilpena Pound Day Tours Bush Walking/Tours Aboriginal Culture Horse Riding 4WD Tours Information about Aboriginal Culture Lovely place, really welcoming, friendly and genuine, homely, warm, clean and very comfortable - what more could we ask for? Verity It's like coming home. Great place! Lottie By far the best hostel we've stayed in yet - so clean and comfy! Emmet and Aisling Quorn, the gateway to the Flinders Ranges National Park, is approximately 340km north of Adelaide, and 40km from Port Augusta and Highway One. It is situated amongst hills at the entrance to Richman Valley. Quorn's tourist attractions include its many "unspoiled" streetscapes and historic buildings (utilised as sets in various famous Australian movies), numerous bush-walking trails, scenic drives, a real country town atmosphere, and an ideal location to base a Flinders Ranges holiday. The town is situated 293 metres above sea level, with the highest nearby point being Mount Brown at 965 metres. The climate is classed as Mediterranean, with dry hot summers and cool wetter winters. Situated on the "Goyder Line" (above which rainfall is insufficient to support cereal crop growing), Quorn's annual rainfall is between 250mm and 300mm (10" - 12"). Average temperatures in the Flinders Ranges are, Spring and Autumn 13 degrees to 25 degrees Celsius, Winter 8 degrees to 18 degrees Celsius, Summer 26 degrees to 38 degrees Celsius. Zero temperatures and frosts are not uncommon in our region during late Autumn, Winter and early Spring.

Travel's Most Endangered Places
Africa, Oceania, France, Queensland, MalaysiaIsn't it ironic that as it gets easier to travel around the world, there are fewer amazing things to see. The earth's most revered marvels are increasingly falling victim to overcrowding, global warming, and untrammeled development. Of course, the rush to see those disappearing treasures means—ironically, again—that they become even further endangered. More...
